Web Recorder Extension
The Qinfinite Web Recorder is a browser extension that captures your interactions on any website and converts them into automation scripts for the Qinfinite platform.
Installation
The extension is available for Chromium-based browsers (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome):
- Visit the extension store page for your browser.
- Click Add to browser and confirm the installation.
- Pin the extension icon to your browser toolbar for easy access.
After installation, click the extension icon to verify it shows Extension Active.
The first time you start a recording, a guided tour walks you through every feature of the recording control box. You can replay the tour anytime by clicking the ? button in the recorder header.
How It Works
The extension operates entirely in your browser:
- Recording — When you start a recording, the extension injects a lightweight control box onto the target page. It listens for your clicks, inputs, and navigation events and captures them as structured actions.
- Local Storage — All recorded actions are stored locally in your browser using
chrome.storage.local, encrypted with a per-installation key. Nothing is sent anywhere automatically. - Transfer — When you stop recording, the extension offers to transfer the captured script to your Qinfinite platform instance. This is the only time data leaves the browser, and only when you explicitly initiate it.
The Recording Control Box
When recording is active, a floating control box appears on the page:
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Status Indicator | Red pulsing dot when recording, amber when paused. Shows total action count. |
| Pause / Resume | Temporarily stop capturing actions. Useful when you need to interact with the page without recording. |
| Stop | Finish the recording session. Opens the transfer dialog. |
| Drag Handle | Reposition the control box anywhere on the page. |
| More Menu (...) | Access conditional blocks, manual action entry, and input variables. |
| Actions List | Real-time list of captured actions. Click any action to edit it. |
| Minimize | Collapse the control box to a compact bar. |
| ? (Help) | Replay the guided tour. |
Features
Click-to-Edit Actions
Click any recorded action in the action list to open the editor. You can modify:
- Action type — Change the action (click, input, select, launch, wait, etc.)
- Value — Update the input text, URL, or selection value
- Identifiers — View and manage element selectors (XPath, CSS, ID, Name, aria-label)
- Optional flag — Mark an action as optional so it doesn't fail the script if the element is missing
- Sequence — Change the step order
Conditional Recording
Add IF/IF-NOT/MULTI-IF blocks to your recording for dynamic execution paths:
- Click the More menu (...) → Add Condition button.
- The extension enters element-capture mode — click on any element on the page.
- Choose the condition type: IF (element exists), IF-NOT (element does not exist), or MULTI-IF (multiple conditions with AND/OR).
- Actions recorded after the condition are nested inside the conditional block.
- Click End Condition to close the block.
Compatibility Analysis
Toggle the Compat Check switch in the control box to analyze your recording for potential issues:
| Severity | Examples |
|---|---|
| Error | Canvas interactions, CAPTCHA elements, file input clicks, drag-and-drop |
| Warning | Dynamic IDs (UUIDs, React-generated), weak positional XPath selectors |
| Info | OTP/TOTP actions (supported in backend), conditional blocks |
The analyser assigns an overall compatibility score and generates a detailed report accessible via the eye icon.
Iframe & Shadow DOM Support
The extension automatically detects and injects into iframes, including dynamically created ones. Actions inside iframes are captured with full iframe chain identifiers so the execution engine can target the correct nested context.
Shadow DOM elements (used by modern web components) are detected and traversed to build stable selectors.
Manual Action Entry
Click More menu (...) → Add Action to manually insert an action without interacting with the page. Useful for adding wait steps, navigation actions, or actions on elements that are difficult to click during recording.
Input Variables
Click More menu (...) → Input Variables to define variables directly in the extension, without needing the platform's script editor:
- Name — how you'll reference it, e.g.
username. - Default Value — used if no override is provided at execution time.
- Description — what it's for.
- Required — whether execution must be given a value.
Reference a variable in any action's value using {{variableName}} syntax. This is the same feature as the platform's Input Variables editor — defining them here is especially useful in demo mode, where there's no script editor to add them afterward.
Data & Privacy
- All data is stored locally in the browser, encrypted using a per-installation key.
- No data is transmitted to any server unless you explicitly transfer the script.
- No analytics, telemetry, or tracking of any kind.
- Recorded data can be cleared at any time by stopping the recording.
- Transfer data auto-expires after 60 minutes.
